Today’s special guest blogger is my “middle son”, Duncan. Duncan is 15 years-old, and an avid bookworm (like his dad). Outgoing, funny, and bold in his witness for Christ, Duncan truly loves the Lord. And that thrills this father’s heart!
And so, without further adieu, here’s Duncan…
Being a Christian can be tough sometimes. Especially when it comes to sharing your faith. At first, witnessing was impossible for me. But that was before this year’s Panama City trip. This was my third year, and what I learned changed the way I’ll witness from now on.
I’m a Sophomore in high school, the point in your life where sharing your faith is probably the hardest. Witnessing hasn’t always gone right for me in the past. Kids would laugh at me, avoid me, and mock me for being a Christian. These are just the side effects of being a Christian. But you need to learn how to effectively share your faith so you can plant seeds in others that might eventually grow into a relationship with Jesus.
In this year’s camp, Michael, my youth leader, taught us how to do that. In order to be a better witness, you need to learn how to defend your faith by proving every other religion and philosophy wrong. That’s when you can show the truths in Christianity.
This year’s Bible verse was 1 Peter 3:15, but I also like Jude 1:3 where Jesus’ half-brother said, “I had been eagerly planning to write to you about the salvation we all share. But now I find that I must write about something else, urging you to defend the faith that God has entrusted once for all time to his holy people.” We need to be ready and able to witness and defend our faith all the time.
I’m glad I got the chance to better learn how to share my faith. I feel in the future I’ll be ready to defend my faith and become a better witness…but I’ll need God’s help to do that!
